Description
Dehydration of food organics at source to divert them from landfill and create re-usable resources - water and a sterile, nutrient-rich fertiliser and/or pet food supplement
Operating Principles
Inside a reactor chamber, waste is heated to 100'C while being stirred. Over a 10-hour period, the waste is dehydrated to <10% MR, causing a volume reduction of up to 80% and a weight reduction of up to 70%. The evaporated water is condensed and exits the machine as a liquid. The remaining biomass is sterile (pathogen-free) and is usable as a nutrient-rich fertiliser or fuel. Payback time is typically 3 to 5 years compared with the cost of landfill dumping. Greenhouse gas emissions reductions of up to 90% are achieved versus those generated in landfills by rotting food.
