Operations
Description The SCRAP 380 litre worm farm is specifically designed for organisations producing around 6 – 8 kgs of food waste per day, eg, schools of up to 250 students. The Worm Farm is able to redirect organic waste (especially food waste) from landfill through the action of worms. Their feeding converts organic waste into - vermiliquer, vermicast and worms each of which has market value.
Operating Principles Worms are bedded into the farm to consume quantities of organic waste generated on site. Food and other organic waste is collected on site in a bucket daily and sent to the worm farm where it is chopped up (bin and spade) and fed to the worms. The worms convert it to high quality soil conditioner called vermicast and moisture added when necessary drains through to collect in a bucket also providing high quality fertiliser. Baby worms are also produced. The worm farm requires periodic harvesting (preferably annually but may be longer)
